How do I get information on booking Scandinavian crime writers for our Book and Arts Festival in Nairn Northeast Scotland Sept. 4th-Sept 9th 2012 Advised by Edinburgh Book Festival to contact publishers first and then consulates tel. 01667453276

Hello, I am an American living in the States and I want to buy a copy of Lars Mytting’s “Solid Wood”. It would seem that it is not yet available here across the pond. If this is true, can someone please tell me how to obtain a copy of this book? Thanks much!

Please will you pass this email onto Christopher MacLehose from David’s Bookshop regarding World Book Day

Dear Christopher MacLehose,

Hello, I’m writing from David’s Bookshop. I don’t know if you remember, but you very kindly gave a talk at the bookshop in the late 1990′s when you were at the helm of Harvill Press, an evening we remember with great pleasure.

Beginning on World Book Day, we are planning a series of publisher talks at the bookshop, and we were very much hoping that you could be our first speaker. Ideally you would launch our series of Publisher Evenings on Thursday 6 March which is World Book Day itself. We would like you to discuss MacLehose Press, how it works and how you choose and work with your authors, and anything else – the idea is to offer publishers with a niche an opportunity to connect with a very engaged audience. Perhaps, if you felt it appropriate you could bring one of your authors along, though we appreciate most of them are overseas.

You would also be welcome to bring any marketing material or promotional goods and perhaps they could be included in the price of the ticket.

We have had great success with our events over a number of years. You and your publishing house appeal hugely to readers in Letchworth (and to us personally – we would be very excited to see you again).

We would work hard to promote the event and would:

* Produce fliers and posters to display in-store, bag stuff and distribute widely in the area
(TIC, library etc)

* Put in a window to promote the event for minimum 2 weeks before the event

* Contact local press, local radio and other media with whom we have excellent relations

* Work though the many links affiliated including the Letchworth and Hitchin
book clubs, groups, libraries, literary societies and schools (of which there are very active examples)

* Email and send to our mailing list (over 1,000), as well as the Letchworth Arts & Leisure Group (1,400 households) and add to our facebook events.

To see a few past and upcoming events. Please view http://www.davids-bookshops.co.uk

We would propose to hold the talk in the bookshop.

Previous author events have included Marina Lewycka, Joanna Trollope, Robert Goddard, Richard Holmes, Kathy Lette, Gervaise Phinn, Adam Hart-Davis, Polly Toynbee and Matthew Parris. Celebrity visits include Brian May and Gyles Brandreth.

I hope the idea will appeal. Please contact me by email or telephone on 01462 768234 or Paul Wallace (bookshop owner) on 01462 684631; paul@davids-bookshops.co.uk.

Yours sincerely,

Sally Hewitt
