The latest no-f**ks-given guide from New York Times bestselling author of the international sensation The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k, Get Your Sh*t Together, and You Do You

Do you waste time overthinking things you can't do anything about?
Do you freak out when things don't go to plan?
Does anxiety get in the way of you living your best life?

When life hands you a big fat f**king lemon, Calm the F**k Down gives you practical ways to manage the situation, not to mention your anxiety about the situation. One hundred per cent practical and zero percent Pollyanna-ish, this is a book that acknowledges all the bad shit that can and probably will happen to you - from break ups and breakdowns to floods, family feuds and France running out of butter - and shows you what you can realistically do about it so you can get on with your life, stop worrying and wallowing, and start bouncing back.

Think of Calm the F**k Down as the friend who, instead of reassuring you that 'everything's going to be okay,' actually shows you how to make it so.

In Mid-Air

Adam Gopnik
Authors:
Adam Gopnik

'Engaging, witty, thoughtful, clever, casual, ebullient, erudite and thoroughly modern' Spectator'A dazzling talent - hilarious, winning and deft' Malcolm Gladwell In Mid-Air is a collection of short essays by the acclaimed writer and speaker, Adam Gopnik. Known for his ability to perceive 'the whole world in a grain of sand', he uses this format to take a dizzying range of subjects and intricately explore their meaning to our lives - as people, as citizens and as families. From how he works so that his daughter can have holes in her clothes, to why appropriation is more empowering than oppressing; from French sex to binge-watching TV, from the secret of a happy marriage to why we should mention the war - each topic is illuminated by his erudition and wit. As in their original form on the radio, Gopnik's essays - each one a pleasure garden of wry confessions, self-deprecating asides, wordplay and striking insights - feel like the most intimate of conversations between writer and reader; yet at the same time they capture a public forum of pithy debate and tender persuasion. Above all, In Mid-Air initiates a sense of wonder in the ordinary that yearns to be shared.

On the border of civilisation and wilderness, between the woods and the sea, she discovers the true value of home, while trying to find her place in a fragile natural world. This is the story of a personal housing crisis and a country-wide one, grappling with class, economics, mental health and nature. It shows how housing can trap us or set us free, and what it means to feel at home.

Bhavana

Leah Weiss
Authors:
Leah Weiss

When a dozen young boys found themselves trapped in Tham Luang cave in June 2018 in Northern Thailand with their 25-year-old coach, their chances of survival seemed very slim. They had only a handful of snacks they'd bought for one of the boys' birthday that day, and no drinking water. Not only that, while they sat there, waiting, the level of the water in the cave was rising all the time. Also, unbeknownst to them, the oxygen level was dropping.Trapped in darkness and unaware of the desperate search efforts going on in the outside world, the Wild Boys coach, Ekkapol Chanthawong, felt it was his responsibility to do everything he could to keep them alive. One of the survival tactics he implemented was getting them all to meditate. Ekkapol had trained for ten years to be a Buddhist monk in a temple in Northern Thailand. He could meditate for an hour at a time, and knew of the countless benefits that came with such a practice. This book explains how meditation within the framework of Bhavana works, why it's something we should all be doing, and how to do it.Bhavana - which refers to mental and spiritual development - is the cultivation of wisdom and tranquility through meditation. It is the means to developing resilience and strength that will serve when it is most needed. This book makes Bhavana accessible and practical by distilling the insights of thousands of years of tradition. It integrates the teachings and practices with the most recent neuroscience of how our brains and behavior can change to give us the tools to withstand suffering and fear.

The Lizard Strategy

Valerio Varesi

Italy's Maigret returns in another smouldering noir from a master of the police procedural "A master storyteller" Barry Forshaw, IndependentParma is blanketed in snow, but this pristine, white veneer cannot mask the stench of corruption. Its officials are no longer working for its people - only for themselves - crime is out of control and resentment festers in every district. Commissario Soneri remains at heart an idealist, so the state of Parma wounds him more than most. And now he is presented with three mysteries at once, each more impenetrable than the last. In a river creek on the outskirts of the city, tipped off by a local, he finds a mobile phone that rings through the night but holds no data; an elderly patient with senile dementia is reported missing from a hospice; and the mayor of Parma, who was reported as taking a holiday on the ski slopes, has disappeared off the face of the earth - just when he seemed certain to be implicated in a seismic corruption scandal at city hall.
