Everyone here at Gollancz is thrilled by the announcement of the Gemmell Awards shortlist, which you can find here.
There are three very strong shortlists, with 5 books up for each of the Legend (best novel) and Morningstar (best debut), and six covers up for the Ravenheart (Best Cover).
We’re delighted that Joe Abercrombie’s RED COUNTRY is on the shortlist for both the Legend and Ravenheart awards.
THE RED KNIGHT by Miles Cameron is the first of two Gollancz books up for the Morningstar award. The mass market paperback came out this week, and it’s well worth checking out this gritty fantasy.
Saladin Ahmed’s THRONE OF THE CRESCENT MOON is also up for the Morningstar – meaning it has now been shortlisted for the Hugo award for best novel, the Nebula award for best novel and the British Fantasy Award for Best Newcomer. The book is already the winner of the Locus First Novel prize as well as Reddit Fantasy’s Debut of the Year. You can download a free sampler with exclusive content here, and find out why everyone’s talking about this book!
We also have a further two covers on the Ravenheart list – Dominic Harman’s cover for Michael J. Ward’s DESTINYQUEST 1: THE LEGION OF SHADOW and Stephen Youll’s dragon-heavy cover for THE BLACK MAUSOLEUM, by Stephen Deas.
The Gemmell awards are voted for by the public, so it’s very exciting to see so many Gollancz books on the list. The voting for the last round will open shortly, so please do take the time to make your selection – all of the books nominated deserve their place, and congratulations to all of the nominees.
