Behind every publication is one or more contracts with authors, illustrators, translators, film companies, toy companies and other businesses. The Contracts Department is responsible for drafting, checking and negotiating the contracts. We are involved with the book acquisition process, supporting editors when they make their offers to authors, illustrators, creative talent or agents. We ensure books are acquired on sound contractual terms, that we maintain best practice and protect the commercial interests of the publishing divisions to enable them to publish to the widest audience. Our team of sixteen people handles approximately 3000 contractual paperwork requests a year.

Over time and with training you will develop drafting skills and take responsibility for certain contractual paperwork e.g. addenda, reversions, intercompany paperwork, subsidiary rights contracts.
