On This Day: Arkady Strugatsky Died

On this day in 1991, Arkady Strugatsky died in Moscow.

A graduate of the Military Institute of Foreign Languages, he worked as a teacher and interpreter of English and Japanese until 1955, when he began working as an editor and writer. Three years later, he began the collaboration with his brother, Boris,which would last the rest of his lilfe and give the world such seminal works as Monday Starts on Saturday, Hard to be a God, and, of course, their best-known work, Roadside Picnic, which was filmed as Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky. It has recently been announced that the book will be adapted for television by WGN America. The script is by Transcendence writer Jack Paglan, to be directed by Game of Thrones‘ Alan Taylor.
